Boarding

You love your pet and would surely love to bring them with you everywhere you go. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible. Do you have a plan in place for the next time you have to leave town and can’t take your animal companion with you? Why not trust the team at Kalona Veterinary Clinic to provide them with a clean, safe and welcoming place to stay? With our professional, full service boarding, your four-legged friend will feel right at home!

Our recently renovated, climate controlled kennel area features all of the space and amenities to make your pet feel right at home, including comfortable living areas, soft bedding, twice daily walks, and all of the attention and TLC they could ever need. We have three separate kennel areas so your pet can enjoy a quiet, comfortable stay. Altogether, we have thirteen runs and nine cages.

In the fall of 2012 we added an additional kennel area with six large runs and five cages. This space features windows, an efficient air exchange system and a motel type heating and cooling unit. The kennels have glass doors so your pet can feel protected while also getting a birdseye view of what’s going on around them. For an added touch, we even installed a ceiling fan. During the summer of 2013, we added air conditioning to our “overflow kennel” and we can now accommodate an additional 4 dogs in movable 5 feet by 5 feet runs.

Guests of our boarding facility are pampered and supervised by our caring, experienced kennel staff. All of our canine guests are walked twice daily, at no extra charge, in the grassy area west of the clinic. If you feel it will make your pet feel more comfortable, you are welcome to bring your own pet food, blankets, bedding and toys from home. We provide Science Diet food at no extra charge, if you choose not to bring your own. If your pet has special needs, we are happy to review with you what we can provide. For pets with special care needs such as daily medications, some additional charges may apply, particularly if one of the doctors needs to come in on weekends to administer the medication.

  • With prior arrangements, you may pick up your pet on the weekends. A member of our kennel staff will call you when they are here so you can stop by and pick up your pet either Saturday evening  or Sunday morning and night.
  • For the protection and safety of all of our four-legged guests, as well as our kennel staff, we do require records of current vaccinations for distemper, parvo, rabies and kennel cough prior to your companion coming to stay with us. If your pet does not have a current kennel cough vaccination, we can provide it at the time of boarding. Any pets found to have fleas or ticks will be treated at the owner’s expense at the time of arrival, and will need to be isolated from the other pets.

Feel free to ask for a tour of our kennel facilities – we’d love to show you around!

Traveling is stressful enough without having to worry about whether your companion is being well cared for. Let us set your mind at ease and provide your pet with his or her very own home away from home!
